Celebrate The Sound Of Music
1 January 2005 - BBC ONE

Graham Norton is joined by a host of special guests, including Denise Van Outen, Robert Lindsay, Jill Halfpenny and Lesley Garrett, to Celebrate The Sound Of Music – a festive frolic through one of Britain’s best-loved musicals.

Special celebrity guests stars Brian McFadden, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Janet Ellis and Andrew Lloyd Webber also recall their own special memories of the musical, and members of the original Von Trapp family talk about the real-life drama that inspired one of the all-time greatest musicals.

EastEnders’ Jill Halfpenny sings the musical’s opening number, The Sound Of Music, as Denise Van Outen and the show’s very own Von Trapp children perform Do-Re-Mi. Russell Watson stirs emotions with his rendition of Edelweiss, while Robert Lindsay and Rosemarie Ford are lovers who only have eyes for each other when they perform the romantic duet, Something Good. Clare Buckfield and former S Club member, Jon Lee, sing Sweet Sixteen and Big Brovaz sing their very own special version of Favourite Things.

For the classic How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Lesley Garrett is joined by a chorus of undercover nuns.Amongst the habit-wearers are Linda Robson, Gloria Hunniford, Fearne Cotton, June Whitfield, Carrie Grant, Bonnie Langford and Dick and Dom, who bring their own special brand of humour to the occasion. Lesley Garrett also scales the peaks with her performance of Climb Ev’ry Mountain.
